Loggins Meat Company
Reducing costs and dealing with the shortage of skilled labour.
Established in 1940, Loggins Meat Company has grown to become one of the major players in the pre-portioned, 'centre-of-the-plate' meat entree market. The company is a privately owned corporation located in Tyler, Texas and has a U.S.D.A. inspected 'state-of-the-art' facility with over 75,000 square feet, 300 employees and a production capacity of more than one million pounds per week. The company sells its products to the HRI and retail markets throughout all 50 of the United States and to Canada, Asia, the Middle East, South America and the Caribbean.
Their product lines include a full range of beef steaks, pork steaks, chicken products, ground and breaded products. Quality, consistency, service and competitive pricing are key to their success, so much so, that they even have their own chef in their R&D department to help with new or signature product development.
George Skinner, vice-president of operations at Loggins, is responsible for meeting this considerable demand every day and all day and, with quality and speed of production being two of his main priorities, he needs equipment he can rely on.
"We chose APC because we knew it would reduce costs and help us offset the problem of the skilled labour shortage in this area," said George. "And as I'd had experience of running the machines at my last company, I knew it would do the job reliably and well."
Yields, speed and throughput have improved considerably since APC was installed, helping Loggins to achieve more efficient scheduling and greatly increased competitiveness.
Production rates of 1500lbs per hour of portion controlled sirloin strip steaks are the norm and each portion meets the high standards of finish and presentation demanded by Loggins' customers. "We get a good clean, even cut, with no wedges and excellent portion control consistency which gives the product so much more customer appeal," said George.
So there you have it - another fine example of the AEW THURNE APC Slicer in action, providing our customer with that vital competitive edge in a tough market.
AEW THURNE 400 bandsaws are also part of the Loggins inventory - four of them in fact - and George knows that they're the best. "No trouble, smooth running, higher yields from thinner blades, reduced sawdust and increased throughput is what we get from the AEW THURNE 400's with their high blade speeds and heavy duty construction. All this and the excellent safety features make it the machine that all our operators want to use.
"It's the best bandsaw I've ever come across and, like APC, we've just got to have more."
