SUCCESS THROUGH EXCESS

Exceeding current hygiene, health and safety guidelines, and investment in the latest technology, are two of the reasons for A1's meteoric success.

A1 Bacon was established in 1979 and has grown so fast that it is now processing from its fourth site in Harlow, Essex, UK. A1 specialises in the production of a wide variety of high quality pre-packed, sliced bacon and joints, including bulk packs, which it sells to retail and wholesale outlets all over the UK - promptly and punctually delivered by their own fleet of temperature controlled vehicles. The company also exports to Greece, Spain and Portugal.

An experienced management team and a well trained, highly skilled and loyal workforce, have built this growing, friendly and enjoyable business, but, without the investment in technology, they could not have achieved their success.

At the heart of A1's modern production facility are four AEW THURNE IBS 2000 Predictive Bacon Slicers and semi-automatic conveying systems. The slicers produce individual fixed weight stacks and the conveyor system then synchronises two, three or four stacks as required to a single bulk pack. This is then passed to a weigh station where individual slices are added to or subtracted from, to bring the total pack weights to a very fine tolerance prior to vacuum packing.

"The ability to offer our customers a wide variety of high quality product options in a wide range of pack formats is what we are all about,"says Robert Cannon, A1's Managing Director. "We buy in raw product and quickly convert it to our customers requirements, so accurate portioning at high speed, coupled with high yields and superb presentation, are vital in helping us to maintain our substantial growth."

And that's just what happens at A1 Bacon - all day and every day, reliably and precisely. Long may their 'success through excess'continue.
